During his work as a Marine Biologist, recent Ph.D. graduate Christian Heesch has ventured into the sub-field of microbiology. Microbiology is the study of all microscopic organisms on the planet. This can include protozoa, algae, bacteria, and even viruses. Marine biology and microbiology are linked because ninety-eight percent of the ocean's biomass consists of bacteria. Those bacteria play an important role in how and why the ocean and wildlife in the waters live or die as they do.
