How are MagCloud publications printed?

MagCloud uses high quality HP Indigo digital presses to print your publication on demand in full color, with a full bleed.

What type of paper do you print on?

All our paper is acid-free and FSC-certified, which means it's from responsibly managed forests and verified recycled sources. Our publications are also recyclable, making it easy on consumers and the environment.

For MagCloud publications with Saddle Stitch Binding, we use the same paper for both the interior and cover pages. Shorter publications (8-16 pages) are printed on thicker 100# text stock, medium publications (20-60 pages) are printed on 80# text stock, and long publications (64-100 pages) are printed on thinner 60# text stock.

For MagCloud publications with Perfect Binding, the cover is printed on 80# cover stock and the interior pages are printed on 80# text stock.

For MagCloud publications with Wire-O Binding, as well as all Flyer, Poster and Pamphlet publications, all pages are printed on 80# cover stock.

UV coating is applied to MagCloud publication covers, as well as to posters. You can read more about UV coating here.

Can you send me a sample?

Unfortunately we get too many requests to be able to offer free samples. We suggest you order one of the MagCloud publications currently on the site, or create your own and order a copy.

Why don't Digest publications cost half as much as Magazine publications if they are half the size?

Since Digest publications are about half the size of Magazine publications, they do save money on paper and ink, dropping the per page production cost from 20 cents per page to 16 cents per page. With that said, our production costs include many other costs beyond paper and ink, which help create a high-quality finished product and are independent of page size, making the cost to create a Digest publication more than half the cost for a Magazine publication.

What binding options do you offer?

For 8.25" x 10.75" Magazine, 8" x 8" Square and all Digest printed publications, we offer both Saddle Stitch Binding and Perfect Binding, depending on the number of pages in your PDF. Saddle stitch bound publications are folded and stapled together. Perfect bound publications are square at the spine and use glue to hold the pages, like a paperback book. Perfect Binding gives your publications a more professional feel, and can accommodate a much higher page count, while saddle stitch binding works best for shorter MagCloud publications.

For 10.75" x 8.25" Magazine, 12" x 12" Square and all Tabloid printed publications, we offer only Wire-O Binding at this time. Wire-O bound publications have a double loop wire binding going through holes punched along the binding edge, allowing them to lie flat on a table.

All Pamphlet products have a Half-fold Binding, while Flyer and Poster products are a single sheet of paper and therefore have no binding.

After you have uploaded your PDF you will be given a choice of binding options based on the size and number of pages in your PDF. Visit our Print Formats page and click on a format to learn about the minimum and maximum number of pages for each binding option.

How much does binding cost?

Half-fold and Saddle Stitch Binding add no additional cost beyond the cost of printing. Perfect Binding adds an additional $1.00 per copy and Wire-O Binding adds an additional $2.00 per copy.

Why does Perfect Binding and Wire-O Binding cost more?

The binding process is more complex for perfect bound and Wire-O bound publications and therefore there is an additional cost, but we're sure you'll find it more than worth it.

What is UV coating and how much does it cost?

Ultra Violet (UV) coating is applied over ink printed on paper and dried by exposure to UV lighting. This type of coating gives publications an added sheen and is more durable, thus protecting them from normal wear and tear. UV coating is ideal for handouts, sell sheets, programs and more.

A satin UV coating comes standard on the front and back of all Poster products at no extra cost. In addition, our Wire-O and perfect binding options include a UV coating on the front and back covers of the publication. At this time, we do not have the option for uncoated Posters or for uncoated covers on either Wire-O or perfect bound publications.

For our smaller 5.5 x 8.5” and 8.5 x 5.5" Flyer products, you have the option to add UV coating to both the front and back sides of your Flyer for $.06 per piece.

For our larger 8 x 8" and 8.5 x 11" Flyer productsyou have the option to add UV coating to both the front and back sides of your Flyer for $.12 per piece.

Can I have my publication printed without the 2D barcode on the back cover?

All print copies of your publication will have a 6mm square 2D barcode printed in the lower right hand corner of the back cover. This barcode represents the order number and helps us track orders of your publication through our print process as efficiently as possible. It cannot be moved or omitted.
