We came to realize that there was a growing pattern in the region: the notion of creating un-urban concepts in the middle of cities. Examples of those are Khosh Hosh, a Bahraini community initiative that revives public spaces; Al Serkal Avenue, an art district in Dubai’s most famous industrial area of Al Quoz; and Tom & Serg,a much-talked about Dubai eatery.

Places like these are an oasis of pleasure that our senses welcome after hours of sitting in drab offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, or stressful workplaces. And speaking of stress, read Wafa’s World: Meditating 101, Wafa Al Obaidat’s latest column in which she shares her beginner’s experience in meditating. While we’re on the subject of relaxing, it is imperative that anyone who’s less than a 2 hour flight away from Dubai head to Anantara Dubai immediately for a stunning five-star Thai experience.

We hope this issue opens your eyes and minds to the real urban Gulf, just like it opened ours.
