Give Thanks, All Ye People. A lovely, simple, yet lively American hymn. It was composed by Rev. A. W. Muhlenberg, founder of St. Luke's hospital, in New York, for President Lincoln's declaration of Thanksgiving as a national holiday, to be celebrated on November 26, 1863, and thereafter. President Lincoln granted his consent to have it called "The President's Hymn. It is a classic song of the Civil War, and was very popular during the war, and after. It was sung both in churches and public gatherings, and truly deserves to be remembered and sung today.
