Double Vision, a stunningly beautiful book by Stephen Jay Lunsford.

You would have thought that decades of chromatic (color) images would have proven fatal to monochromatic processes — after all, we are bombarded with chromatic images constantly in our daily journey.

And yet, it hasn’t proven to be fatal at all. If anything, chromatic images have made the monochromatic print seem even more distinctive as an art form, because it is crucially separated from the world of color.

The essence and power of photography is manifested in the monochromatic print, eliminating the emotional base of color and moving you toward the absolute intrinsic nature of the subject: light, form, texture.

This was the quest for Double Vision — to compare the visual impact between a chromatic and monochromatic photograph using the same digital file. Has the monochromatic photograph lost its visual impact? You be the judge — enjoy the journey….
