This issue contains an account of Reich’s analysis of the historical & contemporary significance of the patriarchal family in perpetuating sexual misery & neurosis; and articles by Morton Herskowitz applying Reich’s findings on spinning waves of orgone energy, his illustrated laboratory notes on observations of bions from 1951, a moving biographical study of Reich, & his thoughts on the roots of democracy. Also included are two other articles on Reich’s concept of work democracy. Biologist Bernard R. Grad details his experimental studies of biological & physical effects of the orgone accumulator; of cell-like structures he observed when replicating Reich’s experiment XX; & his later research on biological effects of laying on of hands. Historical notes from 1950 describe conversations between Reich & Grad about some of Grad’s early experiments, & which vividly illustrate Reich’s functional approach to science in action as he mentors a thoughtful & receptive student.
