Mara Trachtenberg, A Decadent World features an interview and essay about the photographer and sculptor that coincides with her exhibit at Anna Maria College. This exhibit represents a selection of work from Trachtenberg’s series A Decadent World and includes photographs of tableaux and dioramas, both created by the artist. The featured works demonstrate her unique process of crafting mythological scenes of human-animal hybrids out of confections and the resulting, digitally enhanced photographs. The exhibit allows visitors a glimpse at the transformation that occurs between the tableaux and photographs, becoming a dialogue around dichotomies such as culture/nature, absurd/divine, animal/human, and consumption/deification. The Anna Maria College exhibit of A Decadent World proposes to explore the relationship and symbolic nature of the confectionery tableaux and photograph and to create a platform that allows for the critical comparison of these diverse materials.
