On 23rd April ICT students and staff from Salford City College’s Pendleton Sixth Form Centre celebrated the annual ‘Girls in ICT Day’ with a special event in The Hub. All departments were invited and almost 400 students attended the fun-filled day, with activities on offer ranging from creating animations, building computers, manoeuvring robotics and even drone piloting. The ‘Girls in ICT’ initiative of the United Nations (ITU) is a global effort to raise awareness on empowering and encouraging females to consider studies and careers in ICTs. The special guest at the event was Professor Uli Sattler (pictured below, left) from the University of Manchester’s School of Computer Science. As a lead up to next year’s event and to raise awareness further, the department will be launching a ‘Girls in ICT magazine’ for local and global distribution, which will be written ‘by students, for students’. "Expand Horizons, Change Attitudes". Check out the pictures!
