Knitting begins with a provisional cast on. One half of the stole is worked from the center out to the bind off edge. For the second side stitches from the provisional cast on are picked up and worked outward to to complete the pattern. (Provisional cast on, work side one, bind off, pick up live stitches, work side two, bind off.)
