Family Bits: Volume 5 is the fifth installment in a series of gaming books focused on Famicom (Japanese Nintendo) hardware and software. Unlike other gaming books on the market, the Family Bits series is unique as the material covered in the series primarily examines gaming products that were not authorized by Nintendo themselves.

This fifth volume of Family Bits focuses on the evolution of Famiclone game shells. Originally using designs created by Japanese software studios, we examine how those early designs served as a prototype for Taiwanese developers, who then created their own original cartridge shell designs.
