Intergenerational trauma and generational trauma is the idea that trauma passes from one generation to the next. Scientist that study epigenetics discovered trauma experienced by a parent can alter the DNA sequence of not just their offspring but also the DNA sequence of descendants from generations to come. One study concluded the residual impact of trauma can last as long as 14 generations. For the “Black” community in general, this discovery is frightening.
