Through the use of pre-existing “filters” - in this case, whitewashed, condensation streaked, or reflective panes of glass - the beauty of botanical subjects is presented in a truly unrefined nature. Observed from a vantage point located outside the protective conservatory or greenhouse during the months of late fall to early spring, each representational subject is presented in a somewhat impressionistic or abstract light.
This body of work contains photographs from Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA, the New York Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park on Long Island.
The photographs that comprise my “Glass Palette” series are non-manipulated images captured as camera RAW files. Only minor exposure, contrast and color balance adjustments have been applied to the digital negatives.
