Exhibition Catalog for Jill Joy's Illumination Series. Large, minimalist, abstract oil paintings that track the progress of Joy's own enlightenment. The catalog includes original poetry by Joy that accompanies the paintings.

These luminous, sometimes stark, paintings feature deep, pure, pigmented colors emitting or juxtaposed against a band of white that at once emanates and obliterates. The light co-exists with the darker colors while at the same time giving the sense of pushing the color off the edge of the canvas.

These paintings explore the traditional topic of light but from a purely spiritual perspective and represent the spiritual made material. They reference the horizon as the point of departure for the enlightened mind as the sun breaks through the darkness between earth and the sky. Spare and minimal oil paintings that yet reflect the presence of the artist’s hand, they communicate at once a sense of perfection and continued evolution.
