SONAM DOLMA

'Sonam Dolma: Exploring Inner Mountains: Tibetan Contemporary Abstraction and Installation' is a Fall 2010 exhibition based at C X Silver Gallery, Brattleboro, Vermont. This accompanying catalog surveys Sonam Dolma's recent painting and installation work with a curatorial essay, 22 images of her art, a look into her experiences, ideas and perceptions, and the new uses for traditional objects used in her installations. Sonam Dolma is one of very few Tibetan-born women who are working in the West. Having fled through the Himalayas fifty years ago, she now explores her own inner mountains in her artmaking. In so doing, she is redefining what is generally thought of as Tibetan contemporary art through an odyssey that is intensely personal, spiritual, political and global. Most works shown here were done in the past two years including paintings and installations from New York, and a representative of her 'Silent Ocean' series done during her July 2010 fellowship at Vermont Studio Center.
