Katie Johnson is proud to present Memento, which features small-scale reproductions of work found in Coiffures - her 2012 BFA portfolio - and Mortal - her 2012 BFA Exhibition, held at ISU's University Galleries from December 4th, 2012 to December 8th, 2012.

Mortal

By its very nature hair is dead, yet it is often associated with beauty, life, youth, and longevity. At the same time, hair conjures up thoughts of mortality as it grays and is lost. My work for Mortal draws from this duality and investigates hair’s connection to historical and cultural aspects of craft, beauty, and memento moiré (objects designed to remind the viewer of their mortality).
