48 Hour Magazine

The idea behind this project was to build an inclusive community around a creative goal: to write, edit, design, and publish a magazine within a self-imposed forty-eight hour time constraint. In doing so, we intend to show not only that print remains a valuable publishing model, but that online technology and print publishing can complement and enhance each other.

At noon on Friday, November 11, we announced our theme, “untold stories,” along with a series of pertinent prompts and suggestions. Over the following twelve hours, we received over one hundred submissions, which far exceeded out expectations. We were especially pleased by the diversity of these pieces, which included bold interviews, disquieting prose poems, and dispatches from abroad. By Sunday at noon, the magazine was complete.
