This quintet for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, and Horn in F is the 399th work Daniel J Hay composed. The previous two Pastorale Quintets were Opus 133 and Opus 266 (they were lost in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina). The first was composed while watching a herd of dairy cows, while the second was while sitting next to a spring in a horse pasture. This one, the Pastorale Quintet Three was created while watching goats at play in their pasture.
