"Titus O'Brien: Field Change" is a "double-sided" book featuring two bodies of paintings produced in the last decade by American artist, educator, and author, Titus O'Brien. The earlier paintings were made in Chicago; the latter after relocating to New Mexico. The works share certain artistic concerns, and a square format. They also demonstrate powerful contrasts, encompassing a broad range of aesthetic issues that viscerally reflect our complex historical moment. The "AVMK Suite" is comprised of five foreboding, monumental, cacophonous images. "Amitagarbha" are smaller, contemplative, spare, and suffused with bright but subtle color inspired by the high altitude light of the mountain southwest, and a deeply personal sense of the sacred. The book includes a short essay by the artist detailing his process and inspirations.
